If you want to ensure that the .qmail file never changes, chown it to 
root.vchkpw and give it 640 for permissions :) I do that myself when I need to 
ensure a .qmail stays static

Ok between Rick & Tom I think I have it working now.
As long as no one ever changes the line in the .qmail file that  
pertains to mailfilter (even adding or removing a space) I should be  
fine now.
