Interesting.  I think I would change the backup script a bit though. 
Personally I hate having my root password for anything hanging around. 
Since everything is in .../etc/vpopmail.mysql, including the host, port,
database name, userid and password to a user that has full access rights
to the database, wouldn't it be more prudent to use those?
