Technically speaking, qmail-local or qmail-remote actually do the
sending. qmail-send simply invokes qmail-lspawn or qmail-rspawn (which
spawn the associated process). See

But they should both use the queuelifetime variable.
Thanks for the big-picture thing. I had this bookmarked a couple crashes
