These appear to indicate a problem with the drive:
Errors logged 7934 errors detected
Self-test execution status The previous self-test completed having the
read element of the test failed.
I don't know that this conclusively proves that this is the cause of
your past problem, but together with the fact that the problem went away
with a new drive seems to be a pretty good indication of a problematic
drive.
Check the serial number online at the WD site. If it's still under
warranty (usually 3yr), they'll send you a new one if you send the
faulty one to them (get an RMA for this). WD is great about that. You
simply need to pay for shipping the old drive to them. I've done this on
numerous occasions, and with other manufacturers as well.

hi eric
here is the SMART DATA as you wished to view.
Also forgive my ignorance but what exactly is a "nitrous" kit
thanks

hello
i have a centos server
2 X dual core 1.6 ghz
with 4 gb ram
with around 4200 email boxes
i was facing problems of high load during office hours -- top command
used
display load ranging from 5 to 35. I log server load every minute.
i increased ram from 4 gb to 8 gb and processor from 1.6 ghz to 2 ghz
but
However it did not make any significant change in the load.
Then i upgraded from the 250 gb sata drive to a 1 TB sata drive
there was a huge change in the load -- the load came down dramatically
it
is now between 1 - 2.5 even during peak working hours
what could be reasoning for this ?
is this related to disk i/o ?
I think you answered your own question there. The load dropped after you
changed the drive, so I think it would be safe to say that your drive
was introducing latency.
I also have some videos (http://video.qmailtoaster.com) that show some
tips on how to increase throughput on your system.
Right.
Do you still have the old drive? It might be interesting to check the
SMART data on it for indications of problems.
I also suspect that when your load was high that the cpu wait % was
rather high. Did you happen to notice cpu wait % at the time?
Everyone with a QMT that does any kind of volume should check out Jake's
tuning videos. The stock QMT is exactly that - stock. One of Jake's tips
in particular is like adding a "nitrous" kit to your QMT. Be sure to
check it out!
