I'm not so sure. The discussion might not have an ultimate "winner", but
that's not important to me. In the end, people will vote with their feet
anyway, and in this particular case it will be on the side of the
question-asker, not the question-answerer :). We're just opening the
door in saying that we are willing to look after SO, additionally to the ML.
But in order for us to gauge the overall situation, it is very valuable
to hear *why* people have specific preferences. Be it being able to work
off-line, or the necessity to juggle multiple projects, or the
dependency on a smartphone, or even the rejection of change in general.
That says nothing about being right or wrong, but it helps to assess the
kind of the argument.

For ME, eMail works best. It even works reasonably well over slow internet
connections (I use an ASCII mail client, alpine). And it's quite usable on
small devices like smartphones (except for some ultra-long lines without
line-break issues in some mails).
I think SO would be great for and carefully edited collection of Q&A (and
thus could perhaps even replace the current FAQ section).
IDEALLY, I would see the ML as main forum for asking/answering the daily
questions, announcements and discussions. Then "someone" could distill the
essentials of Q&A threads and make them into a SO entry. Yes, I do realize
that this might be more work-intensive.
And at some point Google Wave will allow us to put all the different systems
together ... and once my smartphone has either this 20" foldable screen or a
direct brain-interface and once there is fast and cheap internet access this
will be really cool.

I agree ... I think for Q&A stuff SO is much better ... recently
when looking for answers, I increassingly find that google direts

for other toppics, so why should it not for qooxdoo ...
I am not saying the it is a replacement for mailinglists, but the
Q&A type questions are much better at home there ...
