Also, although I worked on and enhanced SmartTableModel to include a
SmartTree, the original author of SmartTableModel is Dave Baggett and he has
lots of experience using it, so can hopefully provide some additional input
here regarding whether he thinks your requirements can be met with
SmartTableModel.
