Personally this has not bothered me until recently when I’ve had to do some 
traditional web front ends - q/qxweb is not compatible with any nice UI 
widgets, so for “thin” front end I use requirejs, jquery, knockoutjs, etc … and 
a home made qx.Class.  I agree that Qooxdoo is not really suitable for that 
kind of development, but mostly because the qxweb provides very little compared 
to what is already out there and more established - this is a shame because 
it’s 95% of the way to being useful, a little more effort and it could have a 
good chance.

On the backend and for “thick” web clients the generator is essential (although 
slow), although I’m not sure I agree that a lot of code is unused.
