I think I'm convinced that using spamc is the way to go until someone makes Mail::SpamAssassin::SpamC.
Actually, I was planning on calling it Mail::SpamAssassin::LiteClient (I've barely started on it ;~). I'm already a contributor (qmail-spamc), so maybe they will take my submission without too much complaint...
