Previous versions always made the blank in your rack the letter you were
typing in on the board if it didn't otherwise exist in your rack. If you were
reviewing a game, for example, and you wanted to type in your opponent's play
of QUOTA but the given rack was AOQTXY?, it would use the blank as the U. To
overcome this, you had to retype in a rack without a blank (though you
wouldn't need any of the letters in QUOTA to enter it successfully, as long as
you
removed the blank).

This new version always uses the actual letter, ignoring the given rack. If
you want to use the blank, you can hit <shift><letter> for the letter. This
is much easier and quicker than retyping the given rack, and a change which,
far from being a bug, is for me a great improvement.

One other thing you might try, if you know the actual complete rack, is to
type in the rack and then click "generate choices". You can see where the
play you (or your opponent) actually made falls in the list of possible plays
from best to worst. You can then click on the play actually made, and it will
transfer it to the board, blank included.
