I forgot to mention how long it took me to get ssi after we applied for
it. I got sick Memorial weekend and my Mom applied for ssdi in the
beginning of June. I got my first check in November. They tell you
it takes a lot of time and their right. It's just a matter of waiting I am
sure. Good luck

Hi Teresa,
I'm really sorry to hear about Stephen's injury. When Stephen gets
home you will want to be ready to work out a schedule that works for you
both. There will be somethings that will need to be done so work your
day around them until you find a pattern that works for you and him. I'm
not surprised you've had trouble with SSI or insurance. It's sad the
way people in pain, all kinds, get treated. Welcome to the
Q-List. There are a lot of great people on the Q-List, and a few of us
are also SCIC Group (Spinal Cord Injury Caregivers) members. You
might want to check them out, too.

Hello
all,
I would just like to introduce myself. My name is Teresa and I
live in Fort Worth Texas. My son was injured on May 30, 2004, c4-c7 and t1
and t2. This has drastically changed all of our lives and I have been
looking for support wherever I can find it. He just got out of TIRR a rehab
in Houston, and will be returning in a couple aof months for his 2nd phase.
We have already had problems with him getting SSI and insurance is one
big headache. Im so glad there are places like this and it has been
interesting reading all the mail. Any suggestions on getting acclamated
to home? It hard sticking to a schedule and with his friends around all the
time makes it more so, but we want to encourage them to come around not
discourage it. How do we stay on top of things without embarrassing
Stephen? He is only
16.
