I have lived alone for about 18 years and since I got my bladder
augmentation, I do not worry about tubing anymore! I cath myself. The main
thing is to drink lots of water, but even then, when I'm in the hospital,
the indwelling they put in will clog every so often.
I was a terrible worry wort about "everything" for several years after my
accident and the tubing just heightened that! Sometimes I could call a
friend in the building if something clogged at night, but sometimes it would
just clog and leak around the catheter until someone got here in the
morning. I had a roomate who would help when needed, but she was only here
for a couple of years.
Oh, I get 6 hours of help a day from a state paid program which allows me to
hire and fire anyone I want! 6 is the max hours for a quad not on a vent or
other special needs. I also get 6 hours a week from an agency--2 hrs. 3
times a week--for cleaning, shopping and laundry. It takes a big load off
those 6 hours my attendants do! take care,

Dana and ?

I wondered about you quads that live alone. Do you stay in bed at night with
no-one else at home? What happens if something happens? I've had my cath get
kinked and blocked many times and needed to call my helper to fix it. I
could never feel safe stuck in bed all night with no-one there.
I guess you could call the aid car to come twist your cath back right :-)
