I had a suprapubic put in in 1995.  The doctor told me that all I would have to do would be to keep it clean for about six months and it would heal on its all own.  What a bunch a crock.  I have to keep that area clean every day if not every other day and keep it dressed with the tape and bandages every day. Without this daily care it would develop a raunchy smell.  It is not red any more unless I irritate it with the catheter hose.  Sometime I will get urine drainage if I happened to pinch the hose when I lie prone.   T.
