More women probably get them done because it is harder for us to self cath considering where we have to get to to cath and then the transferring into bed to get it done.  That means getting undressed and dressed a few times a day.  What a pain in the ass.  I bet that men can have them done as well.  All of our bladders are in the same spot and the doctors use part of the bowel to reconstruct the bladder.  It is basically bladder reconstruction so you are able to cath through your belly.  They put a hole in your belly to you can access your bladder to catheterize through there.  When I spoke to my doctor about it, we talked about putting it where my belly button is so I wouldn't have an extra visible hole.  I'm sure the ladies that have had it done could explain it better.  I was supposed to get it done this winter but looks like summer when I will have it done so I don't miss anytime in school.
