Will they approve a manual chair for you even though you use a power
chair? I think that it's great that you are able to push some. .I remember
when I couldn't push my chair 2 feet and know that I am so lucky to have gotten
back the ability and the strength to be able to push like I do. I have
seen para's and belong to a support group for para's and they use power
chairs. I have thought about it. I would love to have one when the
weather is horrible. I got soaking wet last week when I was rolling back
and forth at school in the pouring rain and it was so cold.
The first couple of days I was at school, I had to go back and forth
a lot and there are a lot of ramps at the school. If not a ramp,
it's uphill a little bit between the buildings. I got lazy while
it's been cold so it was very tiring. I also haven't experience up
and down like that. I can go forever on a flat surface, but when I am
at home and it's warm, I do go in and out of the house more but it's not
consistent like while I am at school. Especially when I am in between
classes like that. I went to community college before and it was only a
couple of buildings right next to each other. Hopefully all the pushing
will start to show on my physical appearance soon. LOL!
You are thinking like me with disability. I want to kick it up for
when I need it later. 9 hundred something dollars doesn't do it for
me. I'd like to put some money into it.

starting salary is 30k � 45k so hopefully I can get 15 or more yrs of work in

My degree will be in social work with psychology minor. I might
do a double major. I have to see b/c I might need more credits and if
I do then double major it is. Depending on city, type or work, etc..
social workers make between 25k and 47k a year. I am not knocking
anyone for sticking with disability. I don't know what lies on
the road ahead of me. It's still a couple of years off. I'll just have
to see. I'd like to build up on my benefits so if something happens to me it
will be more than what I get now. I hope to buy a house one day and I
am sure my cost of living will be a bit more. I'm not going to go
crazy but I want more for myself than this. I barely get buy as it is
and some months don't make it at all. I'd love to get a part time job
but in order to get help from DORS I have to go to school full time and
there is no way I can do both.
I'm getting some
pretty tough arms though pushing through the campus. I have 15 mins
inbetween classes a couple of days and the classes are kinda far apart.
I push my ass off the first half then start to run out of gas. A
couple of more weeks, it'll be nothing then I'll be getting all buff. LOL.

assistance, etc. The benefits are for the people that are at
their lowest. I only hope that when I do start working that I

Stacy!! I'd rather keep those benefits and work...never know
when something will knock u out of job for a while. Plus, it's a
loooong day on me to work 8am to 4;30pm....i don't feel guilt for
stayin on system, it's what we have paid into....that's why this
system was set up, and i think most AB hope they can be taken care of
if they end up quad. Thing is, it's not a lot to live on...i
make 12K a year on SS, but anoher 12K through work. If my job
was to relocate, overseas, i'd be without a job...not sure what i'd
do!!
