It sounds to me as if you have made an educated decision for your betterment. You are the only person that knows what is best for you. If I did not have the family support and financial ability to hire good help, I don't know where I would be at right now. Just like SCI, every situation regarding a quadriplegic is completely different. I wish you luck and I hope that your decision is the correct one for you.

To try to answer all your questions ... I am in Florida just outside of Jacksonville. As to BSCIP guess this is just another area where I will fall through the cracks - I contracted Transverse Myelitis at 18 years old in Sept 1986 - I am not a Spinal Cord Injury therefore have been told that I don't "qualify" for such programs. As for Medicaid waiver list I was on that TWO years before coming to the nursing home. Truthfully, guys and gals, I'm tired of trying of doing my damndest, jumping through bureaucratic hoops, to get some living quarters only to go through the rigamarole of finding trustworthy aides without being ripped off, abused and taken advantage of (and, yes, it will happen despite best taken precautions) in the process. Yeah, I miss the perks of living "out there" but there's a whole lot more I don't miss. Maybe I'm just a wuss or maybe I'm just wising up, but whichever I am I doubt ev! en if I were willing to try anymore could I find a program to help me.Don't judge me too harshly I've been where you are - independent, participating in society, but the knocks kept coming and one day I'd had enough, so I came here and you know what? I'm okay, my life still goes on.Stephaniec3/c4 quad 18 yrs post
