Hey Stacy,
They have recently changed some things on the waiver I'm on making it even harder to get on and a longer wait.
Now you have to have social security show you're a quad or disabled and it's not enough to show them that you're on disability they have to wait for social security to send them paper work and your doctors paperwork isn't enough anymore so it's a long wait here too.
Even after you get approved they then have to find you people to help you like cna's, here in Arkansas we can hire our own help but not until you're on the waiver then it takes about 2-3 months for your aid to get into the system after they start working so you have to find someone willing to wait 2-3 months for their first check!
You see the problemis you can put in a nursing home in a day with no problem but try doing that going home.
It's a joke the way they have it set up so convenient for nursing homes but not your home.

How long have you been waiting and how much longer do they expect you to wait. This is going to be a big one included in my paper because it is what is wrong with it. How do you get your care now? Since you have been with sci for sometime, what did you do for care?
I will post it when I get it finished and I get a response from my professor so I can share it with the group. this is a program he is pretty passionate about since his specialty was with older people before he started teaching so I am excited to hear what he has to say. I am a little scared though because of his passion for it LOL. It wont be until summer because the class agreed if we turned it in so close to finals we aren't allowed to bug him for our paper until this summer...LOL. I go for my surgery on the 26th and when I feel better eill go talk to him about it.

Hi Stacy,
I'm not on the waiver but am on the waiting list to get on it. From what I've heard and read, if ALL the waiver does is pay my Medicare Premiums, getting on it will save me money each month.

I can use you all as a resource. Those of you that are on the waiver or those that know about it enough to have formed an opinion maybe you could answer some questions for me if your not to busy.
What evidence is there that the policy is/not effective?
What problems still exist?
What are your recommendations to change the policy and why do you think they would be better?
And one I am confused about that is for me.
What is the theory of human behavior explicit or implicit in the policy? What the heck does that mean? lol.
The waiver works great for me, but I know there are a lot of you that aren't happy. Those of you that don't get enough services, why not? If something isn't working for you, I would like to know why or if a service isn't given, why are they telling you you cant utilize it?
This would be a huge help. I would love some instances to use from people I care about.
