I went on the 'waiting list' September 30, 2004. They have called me once to see if I'm still eligible to be on the waiver so I know someone is watching the list. They said that in Texas the waiting list can be up to two years. My mother and brother live with me now, and they help with my daily chores. Medicare pays to have a home health nurse come out when I need medical help. I have always paid for my own aide if and when I used one, but my family and friends help when I'm just running around.
