My recommendation (what I did for 7 years) is to find someone or several someone's that your parents can train to drive the way they want and pay them a nominal hourly fee to chauffeur you.  I had 3 main friends that my parents trained on use of my/our van.

I now offer $8/hr (pick what you can afford, I also barter for rides) to any of about a dozen people to chauffeur me when my van is in the shop and I'm stuck in a rental.

Good luck!  The 'rents are always a tough nut to crack ;)

Subject: [QUAD-L] Transportation

What do you guys do for transportation? I have the unfortunate fact that
I have OI (Brittle Bones) and that I'm a Quad (Paralyzed from the neck
down). My parent's own a Ford conversion van with a lift that we take
out as a family but my parents won't let my nurses drive. I take
Medicare transportation to school and doctor appointments. That's the
only places I can go to unless my parents drive me. I don't like bugging
me parents. Any suggestions?
