Hi Brien, I have been a c-6 Quad for about 8 1/2
years now. The 1st 3 1/2 years , I did straight intermitton cathing 3 times a
day. During that time a had several uti's but all could be treated with plain
oral antibiotics. Due to complications from cathing I had to get an in-dwelling
type of catheter called a supra-pubic. In the 5 years that I have had the
supra-pubic, I have had several mild regular infections but two very serious
Psuedamonas uti's that nothing could help but a hospital stay and a lot of round
the clock IV antibiotics-- in fact I'm like Lori and praying these dangerous
types will stop. We are very careful and sterile during my once a month cath
changes but Doctors told me that by having any indwelling cath's is just a plain
risk of uti's no matter what you do. Also during my 1st psuedamonas uti they
found out i'm also a diabetic making me double at risk of uti's ( diabetic plus
indwelling catheter ) I take cranberry capsuals to help, plus fairly often
take vitamin c to create more acid in bladder to help kill bacterias. Also I
will take D-Mannose at the start of any uti ( but as Lori said D-mannose will
help ONLY if it is an e-coli type bacteria ) Many people can be prone to e-coli
type ( especially Women ) I hope advances can be found for uti's for us all
.
Dan.
