Subject: Disabilities Focus Group Opportunity

Here is an opportunity for those of you interested

  Hello!

My name is Brittany Martin and I'm a junior at Harvard University. My father is a C-6/7 quadriplegic who was injured in 1998 in a car accident. My classmate and friend Beth Kolbe is also a C-6/7 quadriplegic who was injured in 2000 in a car accident. She and I, along with two other classmates, have been developing an online support networking resource for people affected by disabilities.

After my father's injury, fellow quadriplegics at his hospital helped him re-learn basic daily functions. My step-mom remembers how a conversation with another wife of a quadriplegic gave her hope for a married life outside the hospital. However, I wasn't as lucky as my parents at finding another daughter of a quadriplegic to talk to in the hospital's network. My family learned the value of peer support, but we also learned that help is not always accessible when restricted to a local community. Our team has been developing a website that will remove the limitations on support resources with a virtual network that integrates a national community of people affected by disabilities. By combining aspects of Myspace, Wikipedia and Craigslist, we will have an accessible platform that gives users agency in adapting to change and confronting life's obstacles.

We want to hear what you have to say. We are currently building the pilot website, but we need your input, stories, suggestions and advice so we can cater this resource to the specific needs of our potential users. If you or your family is interested in joining our online focus group, or learning more about our project please e- mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/>

We look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks,

Brittany Martin
