Dear Dan,
I don't remember your level but I can tell you as a quad you don't produce
hormones that you need when you need them, if at all. This can be the source of
energy and even mood changes or lack thereof. I personally believe hormones
cause me to hardly ever get excited as well as my inability to feel the deep
affections and passions I use to feel. It is a rather peculiar problem. It
could just be the result of brain injury and nothing to do with the spinal
injury.
I don't know of any cure other than understanding it and reasoning your way
through it. I find Tylenol PM's help me sleep and a stress tab seems to help
after about a week. I think the trick is believing it will work. (Many sleeping
preparations won't work if you don't believe they will.)If you can't seem to
get on track, do tell your doctor. Depression has a way of sneaking up on you
and it is treatable.
If your taking lots of pain meds, they can cause that exact problem and it may
be time to talk to a doctor. Shrinks can be a big help. It gets really hard to
look forward to another day of pain. I do think it is serious enough to discuss
with your doctor.
I don't know if thats any help, but I've been convincing myself that a one a
day vitamin and a good nights sleep can improve my tolerance, even if my
emotions are strung out and anxiety is creeping up.
Ohyeah, after almost 32 years, I love an afternoon nap. I wish we had siesta
time.

john

Subject: [QUAD-L] Question for fellow quads

Hello everyone, I have been a quad now for post 10 years...for the last few
months I have been feeling really weak and exhausted and don't seem to hardly
have the energy to just sit in my chair all day. I know for one thing I deal
with alot of pain and never sleep as well as I did the 1st 8 years or so of
quad life....Anyhow I was wanting to know if any of you ever feel this way???
Or got any suggestions ? Thanks Dan H.-- c-6 -10 years post.
