Mark thank you so much for the web site information. I unfortunately missed
the show last week, but my mother had told me how remarkable he is. I would
like to get the video also. I hope you will be on another show that I will
be able to see. There was really cool of your brother to show that to his
church instead of a sermon.

There are times when I am sure all of us have felt hopeless, but something
will always bring us back to reality and let us know that things are going to
be OK. It may be your faith and/or seeing somebody like this that allows you
to look at your life in a different way.

Yes Quadius there's always some one in a worse position.
I don't know who posted about the "Life without Limbs" foundation
_http://www.lifewithoutlimbs.org/index.php_
(http://www.lifewithoutlimbs.org/index.php)
but this guy is truly inspirational.
He was featured on ABC on last Friday also and is starting to be well known
but his outlook on life is awesome.
He made me feel extremely lazy though after seeing what all he's
accomplished in his life but it also motivated me.
I bought his video and my brother who is a minister showed it instead of
giving a sermon and everyone was floored when they seen it.
If you get a few minutes to watch some of his speeches you should.

I recall being told I would never be able to breathe without the aid of a
ventilator. During the first year I never lost hope, but after about three
years I realized it was highly unlikely I would get any more improvement than
I
had already. I have seen some small improvement, but I still can't move
anything below my shoulders. No finger movement, no nothing, but I'm not
going
to complain because there are many people out there on ventilators and others
that are not who have that much worse than I do.
At least that's what I tell myself all the time.

Man I remember those crazy thoughts, I guess we all had some point where it
felt hopeless.
I have no recollection of my first 4 weeks following my accident but I
remember nightmares I had and they were just vividly crazy.
The finger stuff is just plain frustrating but it comes with the package.

I hope you find some answers,

Hi Mark. Well, to answer your question, my onset was about 1995. First I
lost the use of my left hand and then 6 months later my right hand and then
the paralisis began to spread to my left leg and then finally my right leg.
This is why the medical field thought I was suffering from ALS.

I am now 66, again the onset was when I was about 55, the age that ALS also
effects people.

In May of 02 the doctors gave me 24 hours to live, as the condition had
deteriorated to such a deplorable condition. I can recall lying in my
hospital
bed looking out of a window, thinking I would never go outdoors again. I was
so paralyzed at that time if I wanted to roll over I had to have my caregiver
do it.

But, in retrospect, I can only guess God had other plans for me. Exactly
what they are, I don't know yet, but I am waiting.

I can understand the "No finger Movement", it is frustrating to have to
fight to pick up even a piece of paper or not being able to button or zipper
something, instead having to wait until someone comes and does it for you.
