if you pull the tape a little tighter so the head can't pull back through, you won't need any glue. i used to use zink oxide for chafed skin there and hold the tex on with a 4 inch piece of legbag strap thus eliminating the need for tape as well. any condom worked just as well even the lubricated ones since 'sticking' isn't the means of holding it on. azdave In a message dated 4/18/2008 1:15:23 P.M. In my external catheter days I was successful using Clear Advantage. This is the trick. Get some stretchable athletic tape 1-2 inches wide. It is tape used to tape Ace bandages. Tape half on cath and half on skin. It will not come off. It might be called “Elasticon or another Elastoplast. Merrill ____________________________________ From: David K. I have used all three kinds of catheters, and have found that my body will immediately reject a Teflon catheter. The latex ones will work, but they don't last long before I need to change them. The silicone coated latex ones work best for me too, in my experience. With Love, CtrlAltDel aka Dave C4/5 Complete - 31 Years Post Texas, USA "Tod E. The latex ones caused redness after a week or two. After some reading I found there were two types opf latex catheters... teflon coated and silicone coated. Most warehouse-type places send whatever they happen to grab when they pull your order. I fopund I had to specify "silicone coated latex" NOT silicone, not latex and not teflon coated. HAS TO BE silicone coated. I don't know who you get your supplies from but I've found Edgepark to great at sending monthly orders without having to call all the time (unless something changes) and almost always getting it right! And never any problems with returns when they do goof. Best regards! --Tod ---- gina <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote: > I use a silicone, because I found out I'm allergic to latex. I have alot less problems with silicone, but with what you described I might be allergic to the silicone, but not as bad as latex I know of no other catheters that I can use. Does your insurance pay for the Saline solution? I use a 24 french and 10cc or I should say thats what the doctor uses.,.I get him to change it once a month if I go much longer than that it feels like he's ripping out my guts.. what do ya'll irrigate with? > Gina > > Quadius <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote: > The main reason I asked about the type of catheter is because I discovered about 10 years ago that I am allergic to the silicone products. I first noticed it when I had a silicone trach to which my skin became adhered. Ear nose and throat had to rip the trach right out of my neck and finally got them to agree to do reconstructive surgery about five or six years later. > When I have a silicone catheter in my body, my bladder spasms profusely, I feel like I have a terrible UTI, the stoma tries to adhered itself to the catheter, and there are excessive amounts of calcification on the end of the catheter when it is removed. I now only use latex catheters with a little bit of silicone coating. > According to my care providers, this is an abnormal allergy, but I thought I'd let you know about it since you're, seems to close around your catheter. > Quadius > > > On 4/15/08, Merrill Burghardt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote: I use 10 cc's of natural saline. I get mine changed every month the only problems I really have with mine is it leaks some but when I get it changed it hurts some because my body heals so fast that it tries to heal itself around the catheter and I get alot of calcium built up around the end of it. But I am glad I did it the UTI's are alot less. And it is great to have that area down below free...
