In my external catheter days I was successful using Clear Advantage. This
is the trick. Get some stretchable athletic tape 1-2 inches wide. It is
tape used to tape Ace bandages. Tape half on cath and half on skin. It will
not come off. It might be called "Elasticon or another Elastoplast.

Hi Tod,

It's good to see the "Teach" (as Breezy would say) posting on the Q-List
again. I have used all three kinds of catheters, and have found that my
body will immediately reject a Teflon catheter. The latex ones will work,
but they don't last long before I need to change them. The silicone coated
latex ones work best for me too, in my experience.

Hi Gina & Quadius,

I know what you mean. I had similar issues with catheters as both of you.
The silione ones caused irritation and even pain at times. The latex ones
caused redness after a week or two.

After some reading I found there were two types opf latex catheters...
teflon coated and silicone coated. Most warehouse-type places send whatever
they happen to grab when they pull your order. I fopund I had to specify
"silicone coated latex" NOT silicone, not latex and not teflon coated. HAS
TO BE silicone coated.

I don't know who you get your supplies from but I've found Edgepark to great
at sending monthly orders without having to call all the time (unless
something changes) and almost always getting it right! And never any
problems with returns when they do goof.

Best regards!

to the silicone, but not as bad as latex I know of no other catheters that I
can use. Does your insurance pay for the Saline solution? I use a 24 french
and 10cc or I should say thats what the doctor uses.,.I get him to change it
once a month if I go much longer than that it feels like he's ripping out my
guts.. what do ya'll irrigate with?

about 10 years ago that I am allergic to the silicone products. I first
noticed it when I had a silicone trach to which my skin became adhered. Ear

them to agree to do reconstructive surgery about five or six years later.

bit of silicone coating.

every month the only problems I really have with mine is it leaks some but
when I get it changed it hurts some because my body heals so fast that it
tries to heal itself around the catheter and I get alot of calcium built up
around the end of it. But I am glad I did it the UTI's are alot less. And it
is great to have that area down below free... I hope it all goes well with
yours...
