Definitely appeal the case 1st. Be sure to get letters from former professors
and your doctor. See if you can get assistance with your appeal from a state
Senator or Representative's office. I had the impression you had appealed and
been shot down. The folks in college financial aid offices often have some
wonderful ways to sidestep bureaucrats and get all the money you need from
DOR's budget because they have not acted in good faith.

I sure wish you luck,
john

Stacy,

Sorry that your
health issues have temporarily prevented you from continuing your education. I
hope this improves soon.

Does DORS require
you to take classes on site? If not, perhaps you could enroll in an accredited
online class or more if you are up to it to keep your case active. It would
allow you to complete most of your work at home on your schedule, at least to
some extent, and there may be more course offerings throughout the
year.

I completely
concur with W regarding documenting everything because DORS certainly will. VR
counselors are often pressured by their supervisors to close cases if at all
possible. In fact, in my state, counselor bonuses andevaluations have been
based on their
number of closed or completed cases, whether they result in job placement or
not. Learn and know the rules and your rights and exercise them accordingly.
The
squeaky wheel often gets the grease in these cases.

Best of luck to
you, Stacy.

Steve

Should I write and tell them that voc rehab plans to close my case or
actually wait until it's closed? I wonder because if I wait, it may
take too long for the process.

You have the right of appeal. Look in the back of your DORS book and
read the process for appealing their decision. Remember to do everything
in writing..... they will.
Best Wishes

Hey all,

I got a notice from voc rehab that they are closing my case because I haven't
done anything to move forward in education or employment.

I called them and talked to my counselor. They want a note from my doctor on
how long he anticipates recovery and if I don't get better by August then I'm
getting my case closed. He also said he needs to sit with the supervisor to
see how many more semesters they will pay for. I had to drop classes last
year because of illness and they are not being very cooperative or empathetic
about my situation.

Has anyone else had their case closed because of hospitilizations? Any advice
is appreciated because if I don't have them helping me with school when I'm
better then I am screwed and I don't want to settle for any job but want to
finish my education. That is my ultimate goal.

Stacy
