Cullen, that sounds strange she stuck in a needle to get a clean urine
sample---we just take it as it comes out of the cath tube-then re-attach the
tube for the urine bag.  What if the staph is colonized??? will they treat or
wait for bad symptoms???  My cath blocked off once 4 hours from home, and we
had to do a wild search and pay a lot, to get supplies out of town. Now when
leaving town we always carry extra like you.  Thanks,  Dan H.

I said according to urinalysis last week I didn't have a uti, well I guess that
was because I was not symptomatic, except my urine had that foul smell, urine
was clear no fever or chills, then they called me in because I was going into
the hospital next week and wanted to do some more test because when they
cultured last week I had staph (mrsa) that they figured was just colonized.
Blood tests, urine sample that was draw from my catheter after clamping it off,
well here's the rest of the story when she put the needle into the side of the
catheter she hit the balloon tube and drew saline from the balloon and semi
deflated the balloon, but we didn't know it at the time, I got to x-ray to
check out my bladder and kidneys and I knew my urine was backing up when they
were taking the x-rays the dam broke catheter came out and I was soaked, we
always  carry extra cath kit and catheters except my wife had inadvertently
taken them out of van. It's quarter to
four , the VA clinic closes at four, and my wife went on a scavenger hunt
found a cath kit, catheter and and we had an extra pair of pants in the car,
drove 100 miles home and went to bed. The story got way to long, but just
thought I would tell another typical quad story.

My urinalysis will come back cultured, but be negative for a UTI.  It is
cultured high enough to feel terrible, but not high enough to treat with
antibiotics.  I discovered by lowering the culture level will lessen spasms and
bad feelings short of a temperature.  Do drink plenty of fluids, cranberry
juice, a product called UTI Clear works for me.  Also raise your urine ph to 6
or 7 by a ph test strip by vitamin C 1000mg twice daily.  This is all a daily
maintenance for me but does raise my quality of a life.

We have tried every thing we can think off and those thing have been negative.
I don't have a uti at least according to urine test last week , no fever and no
sores or red marks, I have almost no sensation from the neck down, but I can
usually tell if there is pain or discomfort in an generalized area. I have
tried different positions in bed but it has not helped. We do stretching
exercises every day.

I'm going into the hospital for tests next week maybe something will show up.
Thanks for your input.

Hi,
I get that also sometimes. Clearly something is wrong. If it¢s in bed, I¢d
check your butt, heel, etc. for red areas.
When I was a bit constipated I would spasm very bad when I laid flat, it must
have irritated my abdomen area.
Also UTI¢s will do it.
It¢s always like finding a needle in a haystack when trying to find the cause
of a new symptom.
Good luck,
Greg.

I have been assqa C3 quad for almost 12 years, I have had spasms for most of
that 12 year, but over the last couple of week, mostly at night, they have
increased in frequency to the point where a number of nights I have gotten
almost no sleep because the spasms have been at 0ne or two minute intervals for
three, four or five hours. I take a full daily dose of Baclofen and Tizanidine.
I haven't been able to see my doc yet, but I was wondering if any of you have
had this problem or have I just been lucky up to now and this is a regular
accurrance.
