I went thru this same expierence soon after my injury.
A Doc wanted me to get super pubic.
I am glad that I did not.

It takes awhile to get use to your body after sci.

He can take ditropan to keep him from voiding so often.
When i took ditropan, i my bladder would hold 1,000cc.
(Now, my bladder voids at about 600cc and about 200cc will stay in my bladder.)

I wear a condom catheter now. I use "skin prep pads" to help them stick and it
helps protect my skin.
Then i put tape over the condom to hold it on. If the tape is on the skin, it
will make sore and tear.

I have my girls take the condom off every morning and night so that they can
straight cath me.
This completely drains my bladder which keeps me from getting infections.

I also take 500 of vitamin c at 3 x's per day plus drink cranberry juice.

I've been wearing a condom for 8 years now. My penis gets red but I air out for
a few hours after I get straiight cathed.

Subject: [QUAD-L] Super pubic vs foley or cathing

My 22 year old son, who became a quad about 6 months ago, has had numerous
issues since initial hospitalization. The most recurring is UTI and some
bladder infections. He was in a hospital and rehab for 3-1/2 months total.
He had a foley for 2 months initially. After the 2 months, cathing began
every 4 hours. About a month after cathing began he started to urinate
between caths. He complained of the mess and they put a Texas catheter on him
and still cathed every 4 hours. After about 3 weeks of being at home (I was
cathing and dealing with the Texas catheter) his penis became quite raw.
About 3 times more urine coming out of him was going into the catheter bag as
opposed to cathing. I asked that a foley be put in due to all this. A few
people have told us a super pubic will cause a lot less UTI's and much less
invasive on the body. Please share your views on a super pubic versus a foley
or cathing.

  Many thanks for any replies!
