Dan, This "new ADA," or ADA Amendments Act, happened because the original ADA was watered down and diluted by courts. The original intention, as stated by the original bill's sponsor/writer, was to be as inclusive of all disabilities as possible. His wife had epilepsy and he saw the discrimination she had to struggle with.
Time after time, employment cases favored the employer over employee in all but 2% of cases filed... that's only IF you could get it filed. The more employers won, the more options those of us with even "severe" disabilities lost. (Look up Toyota v. Williams... she lost because she could brush her teeth!!). ADHD is a medical diagnosis and, as a high school teacher, I see several "severe" cases of it each year. (Severity is relative.)
