Yes, profits motivate any business. 95% of all wheelchairs and scooters are designed, constructed in CHINA. The parts and components used in those chairs and scooters are from vendors in China and assembled by Chinese. Those chairs and scooters are then boxed and shipped via ship to North America and must be processed by customs before the equipment can be handled and processed to warehouses and retail outlets. CMS is the largest payer of medical equipment in this country and sets the rules for payment by stating what they will pay for every given piece of approved medical equipment by "CODE" CMS also establishes a guideline for wheelchairs and the terms and conditions for obtaining or replacing a wheelchair or scooter. CMS, also states the requirements to repair vs replace equipment. But on the other hand, I agree with you. I believe that all mobility equipment should be designed and built in the USA by Americans. I think that all wheelchairs should be designed and construction exactly the same. This way everyone will have the same ride. Same size wheels, batteries and cushions. Easier to stock parts and inventories. Keep upgrades to 5 year cycles too. This way shops can order a quantity of parts that can be used over a period of 3-5 years before they become obsolete. I agree with you.... You have a great idea.... PWD Industry Standards. Best Wishes In a message dated 10/16/2009 11:07:33 A.M. Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes:
And that speaks of another need whose time is wa-a-a-ay overdue: Power Wheelchair Industry Standards There's only one reason none exist yet: profits.
