I live in a heavily wooded forest. No radio comes in here. Love my internet
radio!

Normally I would not be interested in reading things on the screen. For
me, it is just not the same as reading a book the old fashion way. As well as
a FREE book from the local library.

But my life circumstances have changed over the last year and if I want to
read books from my favorite authors as well as more recent releases... it looks
like it will have to be via the Kindle download. I just downloaded their free
application for doing that. By using their "application" ... I will be able
to to read the books on the computer as well as having it work with Dragon
NaturallySpeaking to "page down", etc.

The downside is having to PAY for the many books that I could otherwise get
at the library. And I also just won 3 brand-new hardcovers by great authors by
entering an online contest! Well, either I will be able to read them in the
normal fashion in the future when I can or lend them to a friend or something.

I'm glad Lucinda mentioned downloading the Kindle application!

I'm going to download the Kindle program for the computer, but it figured
out how I could use the Kindle if anyone else is interested. I absolutely love
the ability to use these electronic readers. As for reading on the computer
with the Kindle program, I'm not sure, but I know the Kindle has the E. print
which emulates paper. The computer has a backlight which tends to fatigue my
eyes after while.

I do appreciate you suggesting things though.

If anyone's interested I could get pictures of the way I am using the
Kindle.

Why not download the kindle to a regular computer and read the
books that way?
At Amazon.com on the left hand side click on Kindle, then go to
free reading apps.
You can use it to read the books on any computer,or even a smart
phone.

Once you download the app, you buy books just like regular Kindle.

I was really excited about getting my Kindle yesterday, but
that elation turned to utter disappointment when I discovered the Kindle has a
sleep feature that was asleep if it's not used for 10 minutes. This would seem
like no problem for most people, but when you're using a mouse stick and the
button to wake the Kindle backup is underneath and has to be depressed and slid
to the right for a couple of seconds this is virtually impossible.

                Anyone have any ideas?
