Thank You Nan and all of the others. Last week, while I was in
Indianapolis with Warrior, I attended a Homeland Security Meeting- Emergency
Preparedness For Those with DisAbilities. I found the session both revealing,
scary and informative. When such an emergency exist, government takes the
necessary steps for its survival first and then looks towards the population
to
help. Many emergency centers are not equipped with a portable generator.
Those who live in beds are the last thought and those who take care of those
in bed are not considered. So emergency preparedness begins at the
bottom. "each person for themselves" and the strong survive. So if you fall in
the footstep of the above, be prepared and start today. Consider food, cover
and heat. Consider a small portable gasoline generator and know how it
works. If you are in a cold area that is subject to freeze, extra blankets.
After you have developed your plan, talk with your neighbors about theirs.
Sharing is an interesting way to meet people and make friends.
My point is, it all begins with you so.... begin the process to be
prepared.
Best Wishes

Great idea from W, Nicki.

I went through a few years like that, especially after my parents died in
2005 (my Mom was Christmas). But now I have grandchildren (whose parents
are too self centered and lazy to decorate or buy gifts - shame on my son!).
They make Christmas. Their excitement is all I needed. Also, I have an
aide this year who LOVES to decorate for the holidays. So, I've been
shopping and whistling Christmas Carols and SMILING! Big change for me. I
know
it may be completely different next year, so I enjoy day by day.

Just remember, "this too shall pass". Hopefully, when you have
grandchildren, some of the joy will return. If not, come celebrate with me!

Thinking of you.
Nan

Nicki, 15 years is a pivotal period for most teens. Nothing seems logical
or worth while when you are 15. Invite a neighbor from the church to help
you set up your tree.

Anyone else get bummed out during the holiday season? I usually do ok but
this year has been bad. Kids are 26 and 15. No one REALLY wanted to put up
the tree but my 26 year old, his wife and daughter did it…….not because
they wanted to but there was no one else to do it and I practically begged.
My 15 year old didn’t want to decorate the tree….but I’m making her. What
could have been a fun time is ruined because she said decorating the tree is
stupid, etc (she was 19 months when I broke my neck so not like she’s
never had to help) ………..I asked her if she knew had badly I wish I could do it
ALL by myself.

I’m not putting up a tree next year and will be buying for foster children
who are lucky to get anything.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Nicki
