There is a great article in New Mobility Magazine this month about
infections, caused by abrasions on exposed feet of paras and quads in the hot
months. The abrasion is washed or clean with soap that may create further
chemical irritation and internal infection as it travels thru the blood stream
of the leg. This could cause a full blown leg infection and more serious
issues. The Moral: keep the toes protected and feet covered while you are
out n about.
Best Wishes

Dang Larry, my leg and foot hurt just reading your emails. In 25 years of
quad- I have never had an infection like this, but you can bet I will jump
quickly at the first signs should I ever get one. As unpleasant as this
is to think about, I appreciate your posting it and the comments of others
on how important it is to act at the earliest signs of infections. It
almost seems like common sense, and I suppose it is, but like you I don't
think
I would have been too concerned had I seen those early symptoms.

Best of luck and I hope your hospital stay is as good as a hospital stay
can get, including hot, young nurses on every shift, weekends too, who flirt
just enough to make you want to buzz them every three minutes for a drink
of water. With luck there will be one you think about for months after you
go home. Get well soon! Summer is almost over...

Well, guys, day3 of IV treatment and leg shows slight improvement. The
redness has receded a bit but swelling is still outrageous. See a surgeon
today to see if he thinks any of the hot mess needs debrieding (sp?) I know
I'm
preaching to the choir, but this never-ending crap gets so very old.
