Thanks Lori. A very very helpful answer. Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2012 09:19:55 -0800 From: [email protected] Subject: Re: Fwd: [QUAD-L] Propantheline To: [email protected]; [email protected]
Here's my 2 cents on the comparison...... Ditropan and propantheline are created for the same purpose...to tighten the sphincter muscle to eliminate urine leakage. I take ditropan/oxybutynin 5mg 2x/day. But, I view propantheline as a 'pain pill for quads' b/c when we have pain we sweat and this drug stops it. Or at least, minimizes it. I was introduced to it by another quad around 20 years ago and was amazed at the difference it made in my daily living. When it was thought that they stopped making it, I panicked. So, since a few years back, I've stock-piled it and refill every chance I can. All I know is, that it works for me, my doc understands, and it helps me from taking a bunch of addictive, mind-altering pain meds. Hope this helps... This is the first time I have heard of it. I've been taking ditropan (oxybutynin) for sweating. Does anyone know how the two compare? Is one better than the other? I need some serious enlightenment, guys. I am completely lost with out my propantheline. I hope they never stop making them or all of us are going to have to do battle with the drug co.....ha ha! I know it works real well for me too. I'm not a doctor, but have been a quad for over 34 years. So, I feel the need to give you a bit of caution... Sweating and rapid heart rate--heart beating hard are a quad's '6th sense'...pain sensory and is a part of dysreflexia... I cut my 15mg propantheline in half. That way, I can see if I can stop the sweating w/out my mouth drying out too bad and w/out my heart beating too hard. If I feel ok, but am still sweating after a bit, I take the other half. Please be careful b/c what you're dsaying about your heart beat could be a recipe for disaster. I'm only saying this b/c I know that feeling. Please consiider 1/2 a pill. I mean buckets. A few people here mentioned Propantheline. I tried it and it worked great. I took 15mg. The only issues I had was dry mouth for a few hours and my heart beat hard for just a bit. I really hope it continues to work well, it is so much better. I just pop one before I start. Thanks everyone for the tip. Greg
