Nan has so great advice. But I would like to add 2 things I do, that
works for me. I drink a LOT of water about 1/2 hour before eating ....
It makes me feel full. I also eat small amounts about 4-5 times a day
(snack size yogurt, pro tine bar, a bowl of cereal) and my main meal is
at 5:00-5:30 I also never eat after 7:00 A high quad friend of mine had
gained quite a bit of weight and lost a lot mostly by not eating any
bread or pasta - carbs. My 2 cents. Bobbie

Nan,
I don't think I crafted my response very well. I'm not a believer in
fasting too much when it comes to be a quadriplegic. I guess that's
because I have had problems with hypoglycemia, so I believe more in
reducing portions and trying to minimize meals a day later if I had the
larger than normal meals.
Instead of fasting, you might want to think about doing one of those
liquid meals like Boost or something like that where you still get the
proper amount of protein instead of giving up completely on eating a
certain meal on a certain day.
I hope you're able to achieve some weight loss. Not getting discouraged
is very important. I have found that after reducing portions for a
while I tend not to eat as much as I used to. I have also found is
easier to eat less if I use smaller plates. It is psychological, but it
works effectively for me.
Interestingly enough, I was watching a show a couple of months ago
where the guy was perplexed as to how the previous owners of his house
were able to put plates in their cupboards. He had purchased an
extremely old house and come to find out people didn't use large place
like we do now 30 or 40 years ago. Just going out to eat in many
restaurants is difficult if you're the type of person who likes to eat
everything on your plate as I was taught when I was young. Now I force
myself to quit whenever I get a little inkling that I am satisfied. I
have found that after about 10 minutes of become full and I don't need
to beat the rest of that food. Being an individual who is a penny
pincher, I still take home the food, but at least I haven't overeating.
Good luck.

Thanks Quadius. I needed to hear that it really can work! I get so
discouraged because I can't see results ... then I give up, again and
again. I'll go back to limiting those "bad" carbs again starting in
the morning,

I have been trying to minimize meals off and on for the last couple of
years. I have managed to loss a pretty sizable amount, but I still have
my mini quad belly. I need to loss a couple of more pounds of my belly
so that my bladder doesn't hurt as much when I sit up. I sometimes eat
a big meal for a day or two and then try to eat a little bit less the
next few days.
My greatest accomplishments in the weight loss department have occurred
when I have been able to minimize my carbs significantly. This isn't
easy for us, but it does help a lot. Eating a lot more salad and other
vegetables in place of pasta or bread will help you shed the pounds
pretty quickly.

PS I'm having some trouble with microphones again, so there might be a
few more errors than normal.

I know a lot of us have a problem with quad guts, weight, and
digestion. I've been watching videos on intermittent fasting and
alternate day fasting. Many people swear that they lose weight and feel
much better doing it. I know my belly seems to grow a bit every day. I
think I'll give fasting a try. If you have time, check it out on
YouTube and share your thoughts. I do know that when I eat a big meal,
I suffer for 3 days. Thanks, Larry
