Anyone who has ever had chickenpox (which is probably everyone reading this)
has the Shingles virus in them. Shingles symptoms appear in 30 to 50 percent of
people who live to age 85, depending on whose stats you read, but don't usually
appear until after age 65.

I've never experienced shingles, except for the kind that go on your roof, but
my Mom had them and said they were very painful.

Don.

I had the shingles about 2 years ago.  It affected my left forehead, scalp,
eyebrow, side of my nose and all around my eye. They sent me to an eye doc
because shingles can get into the eye and wreck havoc.  It was painful ... but
they caught it quickly gave me some med which reduced the severity and some eye
drops.  I survived, but I don't want to get it again.

I had asked my doc about the vaccine, but he told me you had to be 60 to
receive it.  I was 58 or 59 when I got it.  The year I turned 60 I had a
conversation w/ my doc about the vaccine.  During our talk he asked why I
wanted it since I'd already had shingles.  I told him that I'd heard you can
get it more than once.  He paused, told me that he'd had it 3 times, and asked
the nurse to get the vaccine - end of discussion!  lol

I believe in vaccines.  I'm glad you're going to get the vaccine!

The vaccine cuts your chance of getting shingles to 50% and it last as long or
hurt as much. Side effects from getting the vaccine are, swelling at shot site
(which is the back of your upper arm) redness or soreness at site and a slight
headache.   Bobbie
