I am with you! I am told that I was talking (I was not on a vent until I had
a pulmonary embolism) and answering questions but I absolutely do not
remember any of it, and I certainly would not be able to answer such a
question.

The more I think about this the more angry I get at the family. Even if the
doctor said he might be vent dependent, what kind of family wakes their kid
up from sedation to ask him if he wants this? Of fucking course he does not
want this and if someone did that to me in my first few weeks I could have
very well said the same thing. Heavily sedated, confused, paralyzed, vent
in, newly injured with no certain prognosis yet, and I have the knowledge to
make this kind of decision? And what's the rush? If 3-6 months go by and
you feel the same way, by all means pull the vent out but wow the way this
went down doesn't sit well with me. There may be more to this we don't
know, but many quads I know have started on vents and gotten off. I'm sure
many people have said they didn't want to live their life in a chair but
when it becomes reality there are too many emotions, adjustments, learning
that needs to take place it seems before you can make life/death decisions
imo.

I want to read it.......I wasn't in no way or form passing judgement on the
man. We as a society must be careful of the slippery slope of who judges a
lifes value.

I don't want to see or hear of anyone dying period. I was not part of the
equation and had no input, nor was I asked before they pulled the air
tube........

I'm sure there was more to the story and none of our business.

May Tim Rest In Peace.

Best Wishes

Did anybody read an article I read today in AOL news about a Quad taken off
a vent and died 6 hours later?
Tim, 32, fell 16' out of a tree crushing C-3,4,5 while hunting in Decatur,
Indiana Sat. Nov.2nd Then on Sun. Nov.3rd his Family and doctors asked him
if he wanted to be taken off the ventilator and die. He said yes and with in
six hours he died.
He had just gotten married August 3, 2013 and was expecting a baby.
He had told his wife that "... I never want to have my life in a
wheelchair."
What I can't be leave is how quickly the decision was made and carried out,
24 hours after his accident they pulled the plug on the ventilator.
If anybody wants me to send them the article I read, just email me and I
will send to you. I tried to send it to the Quad list but it wasn't
expected. Bobbie
