Somebody told me that one of the family members was an intensive care nurse. She instructed everyone that his condition was hopeless and everyone went along with it.

I wonder how much say and ethics the doctor had, after all aren't they supposed to save your life. ________________________________ From: Todd Daugherty <[email protected]> To: Eric W Rudd <[email protected]> Cc: quad list <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 8, 2013 1:31 PM Subject: Re: ARTICLE Re: [QUAD-L] Quad taken off vent dies The more I think about this the more angry I get at the family. Even if the doctor said he might be vent dependent, what kind of family wakes their kid up from sedation to ask him if he wants this? Of fucking course he does not want this and if someone did that to me in my first few weeks I could have very well said the same thing. Heavily sedated, confused, paralyzed, vent in, newly injured with no certain prognosis yet, and I have the knowledge to make this kind of decision? And what's the rush? If 3-6 months go by and you feel the same way, by all means pull the vent out but wow the way this went down doesn't sit well with me. There may be more to this we don't know, but many quads I know have started on vents and gotten off. I'm sure many people have said they didn't want to live their life in a chair but when it becomes reality there are too many emotions, adjustments, learning that needs to take place it seems before you can make life/death decisions imo.
