Which nails are thick? Toenails or fingernails?

I go to a professional in order to get my nails done. They do use a file
for some of it, but they tend to use a very soft one which doesn't bother
me at all. If the file is to rough it can cause bad sensation.

As for bleeding under the nails, I might suggest that you soak his fingers
in a basin for about 10 to 15 minutes. It would also be a good idea to try
to exfoliate all of dead skin off of the hands. There is some really good
tools which have a rubber end on them (most manicurist have them available
in my give one to you if you explain what you need it for) so you can clean
under the nails in order to get all the debris out without causing bleeding.

I have problems with bleeding also, but I tend to use lotion under the
nails in order to keep the fingertips from being too dry.

If you can find a really good manicurist, they can really help with the
nails and get them whether not so crusty. Lately I've had to have a
pedicure done because I was having some difficulty with fungus. It has
helped considerably, but you need to find a manicurist who understands
English and is willing not to be too aggressive on the feet.

Also I might recommend soaking the fingers before you cut the nails and
then using the smallest clippers you can get. There also baby nail clippers
which might help you out. Sometimes I have to close my eyes and try not to
think about the nails when they are cleaning out the bottom of them because
I am sensitive to that also. It drives me up a wall, but I would rather
have my nails clean and fungus free, so I put up with the discomfort for a
little while.

Good luck. And the suggestion about a podiatrist is a good one especially
when it comes to toenails. From my experience are pretty aggressive
though.
