Everybody that lives as a quad has a different situation. The most important
factor is a support system. Some of us have tons of support and some have very
little. In any case we all still have life and we try to do the best we can
with what we have left. The guy with the crushed legs is no different, he is
doing the best with what he has. Life is for the living and we all are still
among the living striving to make the best outcome we have. Is a blind person
worse off than a quad? Is a person with aids better off than a para? Who really
knows, we are just a group of quads here trying to help each other with one
issue at a time. Ive had great times as a quad and horrible. At this moment Im
in pain and trying not to take more pills than I need to. I did complete my
power cycle this week and Im going to go on a big adventure this week
regardless. Im trying to find good still as often as I can.

feel rather differently about living life as a quadriplegic.  None of us is
able to know what other people do behind closed doors, nor do we know what
pain, suffering, and agony other people go through.  I have a friend who I feel
has it much more difficult than I do.  True, he has use of all of his limbs,
and he can walk with the help of a walker.  Because of an injury to his legs
where they were totally crushed, he is in constant pain which has not responded
to any of the treatments.  He is only 35, was an agriculture teacher who was
chosen as one of the state’s outstanding teachers.  He is no longer able to
work, has four children who can’t understand what happened to daddy.  He tries
so hard to keep involved in his children’s lives, be a great husband to his
wife, but in recent months has lost over 60 pounds, cannot sleep more than an
hour at a time.  He’s not a quadriplegic, but I will take my life over
his.Would I choose to be a quadriplegic!  Absolutely not.  But im one, I hate
many aspects of this life, but I have chosen to make the best of it.  I look up
to all of you who have been quad so many many years, Bobbie, Nan, Lori, and too
many others to name.  My 25 years has also been a roller-coaster, but I will
choose to ride it as hard as I can rest of my life.Sorry, I’ll get off my
soapbox now.  Joan  From: Lori Michaelson [mailto:lorilivin...@gmail.com]

Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] New spinal cord injury movie  I feel the same way that
you do Hosni ... I just did not want to come out and say/sound cynical. I was
married and my life was like that but I lost it on June 11, 2012 when my
husband passed away. Yes, it is fiction so for able-bodied people... it gives
them the wrong impression as to the real life of a quadriplegic. Things like
this can and do happen but, for the most part, our problems are too much for
others to take on.  On Sun, May 1, 2016 at 4:47 AM, HOSNI AL-KHATIB
