I imagine the Q950 was unplugged during its storage so the 3.6volt reading is a small surprise to me unless its been changed recently?

The PRAM battery usually reads 3.68 volts when brand-new, about 3.6 volts over most of its lifetime, about 3.2 volts or less when reaching its economical lifetime, and 3.0 or under is considered dead.

Some machines will work with batteries under 3.0 volts, some won't

When a mac is powered all of the time the pram will last for years, at the end of the working year its not uncommon for me to replace many pram batteries after the computers are unplugged for 4 or 5 weeks during holidays, imacs for example are shocking for this while the LC's they replaced lasted longer but gave a more dramatic result when the battery died.
Several older macs seem to place a higher drain than others on the pram battery, I dont own a Q950 but I figure its on par with the imac in this respect which is why I expressed small surprise the battery still reads 3.6 rather than something around 3.2.
In terms of nvram the battery life the mac comes a distant third to any other machine type I own. NV covers cmos and pram I hope.

Thank you your thoughts Peter, please disagree if the above appears wrong.
