Allow me to change the subject slightly...

Is it true, as implied by this conversation, that 'new' (68-pin,
SCSI-3) disks really will work on 'old' computers?

I've been trying to attach an external 18GB SCSI-3 disk to my
PowerBook (although it will be destined for the Centris 610) with no
luck. I have a 68-way to 25-way cable which I connected via a HDI
adaptor. And I don't know if it failed because a) the disk drive is
broken b) SCSI-3 disks won't work on a SCSI-1 computer, c) I've got
the termination wrong, or d) something else.

Without a terminator, SCSI-probe gets some id from the drive, but
gives an error (-7932(2) sense 4(0)); Lido7 and Mt.Everything didn't
like it at all.
With a 68-way terminator on the drive all three utilities remained
unaware of the drive's existence.

Any insight would be much appreciated.
