Greetings. I wrote recently about the LC575 I donated to my church and
am now trying to get connected to the internet.

This might be an old issue, but here's what's happening to me. I am
running OS 8.1 (OT/PPP v. 1.0.1, TCP/IP v. 1.3.1). PPP connection
through the modem dial-up (SupraExpress 33.6) works just fine. But when
I have the TCP/IP Control Panel set to connect via PPP using DHCP server
(what my ISP uses) I don't get any IP activity.

When I took the IP address from the status window of the PPP control
panel and put it into TCP/IP, after changing the configuration to
Manual, I was able to get onto the Internet just fine!

My question: Why doesn't the IP address obtain from DHCP server option
work? What if the IP address changes? I suppose I can continue to keep
checking the PPP status to "see" the IP address and then put it manually
into TCP/IP. But do I need to (or can I) update any of the control
panels to solve this problem? Please advise.

Also, I'm still using the Internet Explorer 3.0.1 that came on the OS
8.1 CD (I've downloaded 4.0.1 but still have to install), and the
security certificates have expired, preventing me from doing login on a
yahoo.com webmail account. Will version 4.0.1 solve this problem? Or how
does one go about updating security certificates on older browsers?
Thanks in advance.
