Hallo. I recently received a PPC 601 upgrade card, which I am told was in working condition in a Quadra 950. However, it won't work in my 800.
By "won't work", I mean the computer won't boot. There are also no chimes at boot, but the lights all come on and the drives whirr as normal. Bizarre. With the card removed, the Q800 boots up into OS8.1 or OS8.0 just fine. I have tried the following - Reinstalling the OS with support for the 601 upgrade; Zapping the PRAM with the card in and with it out; Removing SIMMs and trying them in all configurations; Staring at the entire thing in disgust and then crying. Nothing works. Obviously, I can't reinstall the OS whilst the card is in place since it won't boot up or chime. Tsk. Very bizarre! No idea what to do and can see nothing in the FAQ or anywhere else.
