Well, it's not FTP...

Since I'm on AOL Instant Messenger constantly anyway, when I want to quickly
send a file or three from one computer to another on my network, I just sign
on with a different SN on each computer, and use AIM's file transfer
feature.

You can send a single file, a folder, or set up a shared folder and let the
recipient pick which files to download. If you set AIM to automatically
accept incoming files, you don't have to run back and forth from computer to
computer sending and accepting files.

I get around 700K/s between my iMac, 6400, and Pentium II box (all of which
have 10/100Mbps ethernet) and 130K/s between my Quadra 630 and any of the
other computers (the 630 just has 10Mbps ethernet.) AIM is smart enough to
see that the computers are on a LAN, and send the files straight through my
router rather than across the internet.

This is much faster than emailing or uploading to my ISPs web space, since
my cable modem only does about 30K/s up and 300K/s down (on a good day).

And if you need another excuse to use AIM, there's always a party going on
in the Low End Mac AIM chat room. =o)
