I have a 631 or 636 board, I forget which and a "suspect" 6200 board that
you can have both for $6 plus freight. That would be a cheap way to get
into tinkering with the innards of the machine. The back has a plastic
lower piece that snaps out, then you remove two screws, lift the wire bale
and pull the MoBo straight back. Put your index and next finger in the bale
and your thumb against the upper portion of the back. It takes a little
force (make sure you have the right two screws removed) and the board comes
right out. the battery has a connector that you can pull loose and see if
the clock still works, but that is of r later. The battery is in all
probability velcroed to the board. A little scary the first time you remove
it, but a piece of cake after that. Don't worry about a battery till you get
the machine to boot. Do you get a boot chime when you hit the button? I
don't know abot running the software you want to run. There is a difference
between 68k code and PPC code, but that all get away from me. I don't know
what you paid for the 630 or what you paid the tech to tell you the Mobo was
dead, but don't pay a lot for anything to do with a 630. The p-ream battery
for one is going to be about $12 and that is about as much as a 630 is
worth. So, you have to be a little judicious to avoid getting caught up in a
good-money-after-bad situation.
