I have a couple of 605s overclocked with full 040s, and both changes
add quite a bit of heat to the little purple square. Most (perhaps
all?) the other Quadras had heatsinks on them, which are the same size
as the 040 and have a clip to hold them on - if you feel around the
edges of the 040 socket, there are 4 bumps for the clip to latch onto.
I did run one for a little while without the heatsink, but just feel
paranoid about a CPU nearly hot enough to burn skin =). Best go with
Apple's practice, as all the other full 040 33Mhz machines I've seen
had them. The webserver I use is one of those 605/33s - and it's been
on for around 8 months straight with the heatsink. It stays happy :).
