Ben,
The speed of Macs and PCs is a very touchy topic for a lot of people. Many
Mac users feel their systems are superior because of how well they can work
with video and graphics. On the other hand, PC people claim that their chips
can perform more function per second. In the past, nobody has agreed on one
standard test to measure universal system performance. However, with the G5s
now, their bench marks in virtually every area are significantly faster than
the top PCs running equivalent functions. Several years ago, for example,
Macs would excel in Photoshop tests, while PCs might get better
floating-point numbers. There would be no general consensus that looked good
on paper. Even though Mac users knew their systems were superior. But things
have changed. I suggest you look at Apple's site and the benchmarks they've
provided. <http://www.apple.com/powermac/performance/>. Then go to google
and research what each kind of test they performed actually indicated about
the computer, and what real life tasks the tests correlate with.

For the hands-on part of your project, you could have a Mac or a PC running
something such as [EMAIL PROTECTED] <http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/>. That
would be a good way to visually portray CPU-intensive tasks.

Good luck with the project. You sure picked an interesting topic.

Thanks,
Sam
