LaTeX might be a bit arcane, but it does have ubiquity. What happens
in three years when MarkDown is passé?

I think the most important feature of Markdown is that it’s in a
readable format
without using any pre-processor. Everyone can read it as a simple text
file.
Outside of dev people, LaTeX/TeX seems to be mostly unknown…
(You could argue that for just the hacking doc that’s fine, but would
be nice
to have it all in one format)
