If you're glassing it in using mat and resin, then a simple way is to use
some hot melt glue if you have one of the heat guns, as you don't need much
strength in the glue as it's only temporary until the grp holds. The
no-nails type glues are also good in my experience (even sticking aluminium
to concrete! though I haven't used them with grp so can't recommend or
otherwise. The other possibility (instead of wood) is to lay up some grp
using a flat waxed surface eg melamine board and create your own flat grp
sheet to then bond in.
