According to the Ford Technical Data book I have, the following is
recommended:- Ford -Super-Motor-Oil or equivalent oils that meet
specification API-SG/CD. It then gives a chart of engine oil viscosity
dependent on ambient temperature. Check the chart and select the oil which
most closely matches the temperature range you expect to encounter... is the
guidance. It goes on to state... For optimum engine performance, economic
fuel consumption and engine protection over a vast range of temperatures
"Ford XR+ High Performance Oil SAE 10W 40" and "Ford Formula S synthetic
Engine Oil SAE 5W 50" are recommended.
Judgement from the oil/fuel guru at Ford was that the Ford oil is about the
best you can get - from my experience it is certainly a very good price
compared to other brands in motor factors, and I wouldn't even try cheap
brands/supermarket oils as they look like someone has already used them!

Subject: [Quantum Owners] 2+2 oil selection

Hello all, I have just rebuilt my 2+2's RS turbo engine after the
Curborough oil leak fiasco, new crank bearings, big end bearings,
piston rings, cam shaft all seals and gaskets etc etc and cannot find
any reliable sources of info about what oil to use once its back in
the car. Depending on which RS owners club blog you read depends on
what oil to use or not to use. I was running Magnatec 10W 40 and until
most of the oil decided to leave the engine via the turbo feed hose.
Up until that I hadn't had any cause for concern. It coped with
Bruntigthorpe and Haynes ok along with some enthusiastic on road
driving. Any sugestions would be very welcome.

Best regards
Eddie Cooper
